How do you manage your diet during the holidays?

This article is for you, whether you're already on a weight loss program or thinking about starting one but postponing it, waiting for the holidays to pass. Know that this period is not just an obstacle, but can become the start of your transformation. Although the calendar year begins in January, your real start is right now, during the holidays, because these days are often the first major test that challenges your willpower.
We all know that holidays are associated with family gatherings and tables full of traditional dishes. What most people forget is that this way of thinking – postponing changes until the period is over – makes you delay your priorities. And if you do it now, you will continue to do it throughout the year. After the holidays comes Easter, summer events, weddings, baptisms, vacations. Eventually, a year passes in which you've always waited for the "perfect" moment to start.
This is an "all or nothing" mentality, where you imagine you will find a period without distractions, without deviations, when everything will be perfect. Unfortunately, life doesn't work like that. Life is a mix of events, plans, and changes. Until you learn to organize your habits around your lifestyle and not the other way around, you will remain stuck in the vicious circle of battling extra pounds.

What can you do during the holidays?
If you’ve already started a body transformation program or want to start now, the key is to set moments when you enjoy special meals and maintain balance the rest of the time. Think of it like this: Christmas dinner is just a meal. New Year's dinner is the same. Even meals with friends are isolated events. This doesn't mean holidays should turn into two weeks of excess. There's a big difference between eating in moderation and overeating with the wrong thought, "I've already eaten too much, so what does it matter?". It matters. One, two, or three meals where you deviate slightly won’t drastically affect your progress. But two weeks of eating without control can make a big difference.

How to control your meals?
Our traditions include dishes like sarmale (stuffed cabbage), roast meats, or piftie (jellied meat), all of which are good sources of protein. Here are some simple rules that can help:
- Start the meal with protein. Eat the roast or sarmale before thinking about dessert.
- Choose vegetables as a side dish, not potatoes. A lighter carbohydrate will help you feel full without consuming too many calories.
- Save dessert for the end. If you start the meal with cozonac (sweet bread) or other sweets, you'll consume more than if you enjoy them after you're already full.
- Don't stop moving. Any form of movement is welcome! Whether you're doing a bodyweight workout, lifting weights, or simply taking a long walk.
Why not starve yourself?
When you sit down to eat hungry, the sweet temptations are much harder to control. It’s important to eat balanced meals before events to avoid overindulging in desserts or other high-calorie foods. If you start the day with sweets, the craving for carbs will persist throughout the day, and you'll end up consuming much more.

Why start a program now?
The holiday season is a great opportunity to test your willpower and practice moderation. Plus:
- You avoid gaining extra weight. It's easier to start now than to fix mistakes later.
- You set the right tone for the upcoming year. If you learn to manage the holidays, you'll be much more prepared for future events.
Don’t wait for the holidays to pass to start transforming your lifestyle. Take the first step now and prove to yourself that you can stay consistent, no matter the context. Holidays are just an event, and your life continues. The decision is yours!
